John J. Smith Jr., of the Town of Newburgh, NY, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. He was 93.

Son of the late John and Kathleen (Collins) Smith Sr., he was born March 28, 1931 in Newburgh, NY.

A lifelong resident until 1994 when he moved to Naples, Fl, John was a retired Computer Engineer for IBM, Poughkeepsie, NY for over 30 years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a reservist. He was married the love of his life Jean Roller for 62 years.

He was a devout Roman Catholic attending mass at Saint Patrick's Church, Newburgh, NY from a small child until 1994. He continued his worship at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples, FL.

John was a gentle soul. He had a heart-warming laugh and was kind to everyone. He was an avid Notre Dame fan.

John is survived by his son, John J. Smith III of Newburgh, NY; two sisters, Mary Weidkam of Newburgh, NY and Jean Marie Garzon of Newburgh, NY; daughter-in-law, Loriann of Norwalk, CT; two grandchildren, Julius Smith and Lilah Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean (Roller) Smith; son, Jeffery J. Smith; and brothers, George A. Smith, William Smith, and Robert Smith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, 433 S Plank Rd, Newburgh, NY 12550, followed by a graveside service at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5468 Route 9W North. Newburgh NY 12550.
