Jose Antonio "Tony" Santiago of Newburgh passed away on April 14, 2014 in Richmond Hills, NY. He was 66 years old. The son of the late Eloy DeSantiago and Margarita Gonzalez he was born on July 10, 1947 in Mayaquez, Puerto Rico. Tony was retired from the United States Postal Serivce where he worked as the chief mechanic and computer engineer in Mt. Vernon, NY. Tony served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He saw combat as a member of the 1st Calvary Division, long range reconnaissance patrol. Tony is survived by his children: Jose Eloy Santiago of Hodgenville, KY, Gaddiel Antonio Santiago of Richmond Hills, NY, and Marrycely and her husband Christopher Jaycox of Highland, NY; his grandchildren: Arlene Santiago, Jose Santiago, Alissa Cepeda, Sara Santiago, Benicio Santiago, Julie Santiago, Kate Santiago, and Ava Jaycox; his brother Eloy DeSantiago of Newburgh; his sisters: Monserrate Mendolaro of Orlando, FL and Matilde Cintron of Newburgh, NY. In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Friday, April 18 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Orange County Veteran's Cemetery in Goshen.
