EARLY LIFE
Joseph "Tranquille" Jean-Jerome, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and best friend, passed away on Wednesday, April 17th, in Peekskill, New York. He was born on January 26, 1941, in Verrettes, Haiti, to Elvaquia Jean-Jerome and Anne Carmelie Mesidort. He attended monastery school at the early age of 13.
CAREER
Joseph was a contemplative and philosophical man. But most importantly, he was a scholar. He obtained a B.A. in Accounting and a Masters Degree in Education while teaching at the prestigious Jean Marie Guilloux School in Haiti prior to migrating to the USA, where he worked as an accountant, a banker, and finally retired as an educator.
LIFE
Joseph had a great passion for theology and enjoyed hosting bible studies with various church leaders including but not limited to Jehovah Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists and The Church of Latter Day Saints . You could often find him on the weekends working around the house, reading under a shaded tree or listening to the Haitian radio in his car. He loved home cooked Caribbean meals prepared by his late wife, Jenny Jean-Jerome. He was quite the debater on topics including politics and philosophy. He loved talking to his cat, Spicy. One of his favorite pastimes was just relaxing at home and watching movies with his family.
FAMILY
Joseph's values of love, wisdom, and hard work will be cherished by those who knew him. He is survived by his two daughters Marie Eva Desrosiers and Desiree Jean-Jerome, his son Jeffrey Jean-Jerome, his three grandchildren, Jared Jean-Jerome, Phillip and Christopher Desrosiers. His siblings Laurence Jean-Jerome and Yverose Colas. His close friends Max Douje, Fritz Pascal, Serge Josaphat and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Marie Louise Jean-Baptiste and his second wife Jenny Jean-Jerome, and his brothers Jacques and Menez Jean-Jerome.
A graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery 5468 Route 9W North, Newburgh at 2PM on Monday May 6, 2024. A procession to the grave will begin at 1:30PM at the main office of Cedar Hill Cemetery.
