Josephine A. Cincotta, 84, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026 with her loving family surrounding her. JoAnn was born and raised in Yonkers, NY. The daughter of the late Theresa and Joseph Portanova.

JoAnn graduated in 1959 from Commerce High School. While in high school she was captain of the cheering squad. After graduating she worked for County Trust Bank in Yonkers. While working for the bank, she graduated from American Institute of Banking from Iona College in Westchester, NY. In 1961 she married her high school sweetheart Vinnie Cincotta. While he was in the Army, she traveled with him. They were based in Arizona then in Germany. In 1972 they moved their family to New Windsor, NY. When their children were old enough, she went to work at Highland National Bank in Newburgh, NY for 4 years, then went to work for New York Telephone Company, through all the name changes finally retired from Verizon after 20 years.

In 2003, JoAnn and Vinnie moved to Las Vegas Nevada, but after 5 years, they moved back to New Windsor because they missed their children.

She was broken hearted with the passing of Vinnie in 2020, the love of her life, after being married for 59 years. She enjoyed going to the Casino with daddy and most of all, she loved spending her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be so deeply missed.

She is survived by her loving daughter Toni and her husband Carmelo Cosentino, her cherished son Tommy and his wife Tricia Cincotta. Her precious grandchildren, Vinnie Nevling and his wife Tiffany, Andrea Nevling (Sean), Remi Cosentino (Eugene), Gino Cincotta (Madalynn), Anthony Cincotta (Madaline), Vincent Cincotta (Layla), April Zuniga and husband Matt. Her great grandchildren, Marcella Nevling, Arabella Cincotta, Carmine Espinal, Matthew and Renzo Zuniga. Her sister in-law Georgette Cincotta. Many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her brother Alfred Portanova, sisters Carmella Mauro, Benilda Zwicker, sister in-law Joan Portanova, brother in-law Dominick Cincotta.

We would like to thank Dr. Bambino, Dr. Hughes, Dr. Darmiento, Dr. Reed, Dr. Kahn, the nursing teams at St. Lukes Hospital, and the amazing team of Hospice of Orange & Sullivan County. They made her final days so peaceful.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday March 4th from 4PM to 7PM at Brooks Funeral Home located at 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550.

A Mass of the Christian burial will be held at t. Francis of Assisi Church at 10AM on Thursday March 5th located at 145 Benkard Ave, Newburgh, NY 12550.

An entombment will follow at the Cedar Hill Mausoleum located at 5468 Rte 9W, Newburgh, NY 12550.

In Lieu of flowers, she would like donations to St. Judes Hospital .
