Obituary

Leona C. Nuzback of New Windsor, NY passed away suddenly at her home after a courageous battle with brain cancer, which included successful surgery and radiation therapy; she succumbed to an alternative ailment, leaving all in a state of shock, remorse, and loss. She was 82. Leona was born in Dickson City, PA on February 9, 1933. Her parents were the late John and Veronica Binek. She attended Dickson City High School, was a cheerleader, and graduated in 1950. She worked at Daystrum Electronics in Scranton, PA, as a switchboard operator. Leona married Dennis F. Nuzback on June 13, 1953, and lovingly raised a family of two sons and a daughter in Apalachin, NY, and relocated to Wappingers Falls, NY in 1970. In addition, she worked at IBM East Fishkill Micro-Electronics from 1977-1993 as a Quality Inspector and Data Administrator. In 1997, Leona moved to her current address in New Windsor. Wherever Leona was, she always established priceless and fond friendships. Leona was a selfless individual and the centerpiece of her family. Her ability to show love, care, support and guidance was unrelenting. She always had time for family and friends and never put her own needs or considerations ahead of anyone. She literally lived her life through the inspirations of "The Prayer of Saint Francis", never wavering from its clear and simple direction. She developed a keen and effective method of delivering "guidance" that might have been "contrary" to what the recipient was thinking by initializing the advice with the phrase "I am just saying". She is survived by her sons, Dennis E. Nuzback , his wife Lesa of Ankeny, IA, Gerard Nuzback, his wife Grace of Hopewell Junction, NY, and her daughter, Lynne Anne Doherty, her husband Mike, of Goshen, NY. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Lauren and Curtis Nuzback of Ankeny, IA, Christopher and Michael Nuzback of Hopewell Junction, NY and Shannon and Mikey Doherty of Goshen, NY and is also survived by cousins, nieces, and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her husband Dennis F. Nuzback and her sister, Mary Ann Paczkowski of Dickson City, PA. Leona was an active member of the Church of St. Joseph, New Windsor, and when she wasn't busy with her family, she enjoyed crocheting and many activities including cards, book club, and lunch with the ladies, and dear neighbor, Claire. She loved to take walks or simply sit at a beach to stare and enjoy the beautiful endless horizon. Leona also became computer savvy and was the New York Giants' biggest fan. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2015 at the Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY from 4:00 to 7:00 pm followed by a Mass at 10:30 a.m. On Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Church of St. Joseph, 4 St. Joseph Place, New Windsor, NY. Immediately following Mass there will be a procession to the Cedar Hill Cemetery for a final prayer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Sinai Hospital, St. Luke's Cornwall Littman Cancer Center, Cornwall, NY or the American Cancer Society.
