Leslie Ernest Mansley

"Ernie"

April 12, 1943 ~ January 23, 2026

Mr. Leslie Ernest "Ernie" Mansley, 82, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at Jack D Weiler hospital in Bronx, New York. Born on April 12, 1943, in Oceanside, New York, Ernie lived a life filled with dedication to his family, friends, and passions.

Ernie earned a bachelor's degree in Physics from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in Brooklyn, New York. During his college years, he proudly served in the Army Corps of Engineers, demonstrating his commitment to both education and service. Following his studies and military service, Ernie embarked on a long and successful career as the owner of an appliance store. His work ethic was evident throughout his life.

Family was at the heart of everything Ernie did. He is survived by his beloved wife Eileen; his son Tom Mansley and wife Jan, along with their children Zachary and Kyle; and his daughter Kathy Scala and husband Mark, with their children Jon and Jessica, Chris and Chelsey. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law Willy and wife Jane, as well as their children Tara, Summer, Matthew, and Nicole. Ernie’s devotion to his family was unwavering—he cherished every moment spent with them and took great pride in teaching his children valuable skills through shared projects.

In addition to being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Ernie had many hobbies that brought him joy throughout his life. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and boating with his family—activities that created lasting memories for all who joined him. Together with Eileen, he cultivated a love for organic gardening and raising chickens. Ernie was also a weather enthusiast who taught his children to manually chart the path of hurricanes before the internet existed. A skilled woodworker and handyman, Ernie approached every project with enthusiasm and often involved his children in the process, passing down both knowledge and cherished moments. “It’s just a ten-minute job!”

As time went on, Ernie found peace in simpler pleasures. He delighted in watching hummingbirds and feeding the birds near his home—a pastime that reflected his appreciation for nature’s beauty. He also looked forward to tracking the weather with Lee Goldberg every evening. His kindness extended beyond family; he was known as a friendly and helpful man who always made time for others. Whether offering support to friends or sharing a joke to brighten someone’s day, Ernie had a way of making those around him feel valued. He often said in earnest, “But more importantly, how are YOU?” He also enjoyed talking, and toying, with unsolicited telemarketers ultimately making them regret the call ;)

Ernie’s warmth touched countless lives. His ability to listen deeply and provide encouragement made him a steadfast presence for those fortunate enough to know him. Ernie was very devoted to his friends and the group he belonged to for fifteen years. He will be remembered not only for his humor but also for the love he shared so freely.

May Mr. Leslie Ernest "Ernie" Mansley’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those whose lives he enriched. A memorial gathering will take place Saturday, May 16th, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY.
