Lincoln James
Morehead
November 7, 2023
Lincoln James Morehead, "Jim" entered into rest on November 7, 2023 at Westchester Medical Center. The son of the late Abraham Lincoln and Ann Morehead, he was born May 3,1943 at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, New York. Having met in summer classes as teenagers, Jim married the love of his life, Bettejane (Whalen) Morehead in 1964 and they would be married sixty years this June.
Jim was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and Krissler Business Institute. He was employed at Texaco for twenty years before becoming Vice President of Morehead Honda in Newburgh, New York.
An avid sports enthusiast, Jim loved to play golf and was a member of the Powelton Club. He was a loyal Notre Dame Football fan and faithfully followed the Army and UConn women's basketball.
Never one to complain, Jim always felt "life was good" and even when challenges emerged, he could always find the bright side in any situation and found joy in the simple things. Jim was a generous and selfless man who asked little of others, but loved to ensure those around him were cared for.
In addition to his devoted wife, Bettejane, Jim is survived by his children, James Lincoln Morehead (Carolyn), Kelly O'Donnell (Jonnah), Ann Marie Morehead (Tommy Riley), Michael Morehead (Elizabeth), Kim Kawamoto "daughter number three", and his little Yorkie, Lucy; brothers: Robert (Barbara), Ronald, John (Irena), and Brian (Eileen); grandchildren, John Lincoln Zambito, Garrett Morehead, Christopher Morehead, Emma Certo, Katherine Morehead, and Kara Morehead; great grandchild, Myla Certo; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jim's family would like to thank Dr. A. Hadid, Dr. R. Mateo and Dr. S. Makam for their compassionate care and for the love, prayers and support of family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 pm, Sunday, November 12, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Father William Scafidi, will be celebrated at 10 am, Monday, November 13, at St. Mary's Church, 180 South Street, Newburgh.
