Obituary

Margaret R. "Cookie" Conrad, of New Windsor, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at home with her family by her side. She was 70. Daughter of the late Joseph J. and Margaret M. (Simpson) Martino, she was born July 15, 1942 in Missouri. Margaret was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, and worked as a secretary at various places including Mt. St. Mary College before retiring. She will be remembered for her love of reading, and a dedicated fan of the New York Yankees. Survivors include her husband, Edwin A. Conrad, Sr., whom she married on November 23, 1963 in St. Mary's Church in Newburgh; her children, Laura J. McHugh and her husband Hugh, Catherine M. Younes and her husband Donald, and Edwin A. Conrad, Jr., and his wife Patricia; her sister, Ann Bewick; sister-in-law, Jill Martino; grandchildren, Kellie and Amy Younes and Christopher Conrad; and 15 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Patrick Heffernan and Robert A. Martino. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, October 24 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 25 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation for the care and compassion Cookie and the family received from Hospice, Dr. Zak and staff of Mid Hudson Oncology, and Dr. B. Hadid and staff of Westchester Heart & Vascular.
