Marguerite A. Gunter
April 19, 1964 ~ March 8, 2026
Marguerite Ann Gunter, lovingly known as "Maggie" or "Margo" was born on Sunday, April 19, 1964. She peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the age of 61, while in the loving care of her dear friend Marie Jenvier.
As a young girl growing up on Long Island with her mother and father, Marguerite lived a life full of adventure alongside her four siblings. Whether planting vegetables in the garden, raising dogs, going to the beach, reciting poems, reading books, or playing handball with her father, she grew up in a lively and loving home where stories and music helped shape her imagination and passion for learning. Marguerite deeply valued education and developed an unwavering thirst for knowledge early in life. Among her many talents, she learned to play the drums and loved roller skating. She was also an active member of the Girl Scouts of America, proudly earning many badges along the way.
Marguerite cherished spending time with her brothers and sisters and enjoyed many weekends and summers with her maternal grandmother, Helen Gunter, and her paternal grandparents, Lillian and Fitzhugh Foster, in the Bronx. Surrounded by cousins, aunts, and uncles, these moments became treasured memories. During this time, her creativity flourished and she often dressed up as characters from movies and books she loved. With her natural sense of style, dynamic personality, and unforgettable laugh, Marguerite brought joy wherever she went.
At a young age, Marguerite became a mother. Her only child, Tia, was the light of her life. With the support of her family, she continued her education while striving to create the best life possible for her beloved daughter. While attending Harry S. Truman High School in the Bronx, Marguerite discovered her dream of working in the medical field. She later continued her education at Stony Brook University on Long Island, where she earned the first of her two master's degrees. She later received her MBA from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. Her professional journey eventually led her to Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, where she worked as a DATA INTELLIGENCE ENGINEER. In this role, she collaborated with clinicians, administrators, and data scientists to support clinical, operational, and financial decision making. Marguerite was deeply dedicated to excellence and always strove to be the very best she could be. Marguerite also developed a strong passion for fitness, travel, and exploration. She loved experiencing new places, cultures, and adventures.
Her travels took her across the globe, creating memories that she cherished deeply. One of her special joys was sharing this love of travel with her niece Samantha and cousin Jessica, taking them on their first Caribbean trip to the Bahamas. Sadly, her flourishing career was interrupted by a devastating diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in 2007. Yet Marguerite refused to let the challenges of living in a wheelchair define her life. Her strength came from her unwavering faith, having long accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Her faith became a guiding light that strengthened and sustained her throughout the rest of her life.
Marguerite's vibrant spirit was evident in everything she did. Whether pursuing higher education, working in the medical field, or teaching a fitness class, she approached every endeavor with determination, joy, and enthusiasm. Her intelligence was matched only by her remarkable ability to bring fun and warmth into every situation. This beautiful soul will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marguerite is survived by her mother, Rose; father, Hugh; sister, Melissa (Walter); brothers, Errol and Christopher (Lissette); and her beloved daughter, Tia (William). She also leaves behind six grandchildren — Tamara, William, Arleen, Darryl, Jaden, and Triston — and one great-grandchild, Owen. Her loving family also includes her nieces — Shawnett, Samantha, Rebecca (Eric), Rachel (Kevin), LillianRose, Amelia, Azaria, and Mikayla, and nephews, Roderick Jr. (Nacreesha) and Branden. She is also survived by her great-niece Ellaina and great-nephews Roderick III, Aaron, Isaiah, Elijah, Bryce and Levi.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her sister Arleen, grandparents Helen and Hughes, Lillian and Fitzhugh, Aunt Geneve, Uncle Sammy, Uncle Desmond, Uncle Ricky and cousins Angella and Chris.
She also leaves behind a large and loving extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who brought her immense joy and who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
May her life continue to serve as a source of comfort and inspiration to all whose lives she touched.
Thank you for your prayers, kindness, and support as we remember and honor Marguerite.
