Maria Louise Vasta (Diaz), passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the Kaplan Hospice Residence in Newburgh, New York surrounded by her family, she was only 77 years old. Born on February 4, 1948, in New York City, Maria lived a life marked by devotion—to her family, her faith, and her community.
Maria dedicated many years of service to the Central Accounting Division at West Point, New York, where she worked with diligence and integrity until her retirement. Her professional life was characterized by commitment and reliability, qualities that extended into every aspect of her personal life.
A woman of deep Catholic faith, Maria was extremely devoted to her religion and found great comfort and strength in attending daily Mass. Her spiritual life was a cornerstone of her identity and guided her actions with compassion and grace.
Maria's greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
Whether she was cooking favorite family recipes in the kitchen, shopping, or dancing with joy at family gatherings, Maria created lasting memories filled with warmth and love.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, George J. Vasta; her son Robert Gerard Vasta Sr.; her daughter Dena McGuiness and husband Chris, and her cherished grandchildren, Madison, Marinna and Robert Gerard Vasta Jr., Kayla and Daniel McGuiness, as well as nieces and nephews, and many other treasured family members. Maria leaves behind her loving sisters Roberta Amaya and Rosalie Butta.
Maria was predeceased by her infant daughter Maria, her parents Robert and Rosalie Diaz and her sister Paula Spano.
A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, New York on June 30, 2025.
Maria Louise Vasta will be remembered for the kindness she extended to others, the unwavering love she gave to her family, and the steadfast faith that guided her throughout life. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Wake will be held on June 29, 2025, from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home 481 Gidney Avenue. A Funeral Mass will be held on June 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart 301 Ann Street. A Funeral will be held on June 30, 2025, at Veterans Memorial Cemetery 111 Craigville Road
