Mary V. Ferretti
October 11, 1936 ~ June 4, 2024
Yonkers, NY
Mary Virginia Moore Ferretti, 87, a long time resident of Newburgh, NY, who most recently lived at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY, passed away on June 4, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. A strong and determined woman who stood her ground and always advocated for her kids.
Mary was the daughter of Roger and Charlotte (Peterson) Moore. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, and was raised in the convent of the Sisters of Mercy, on Willoughby Avenue in Bed Stuy.
As a young woman, she moved to Manhattan and lived life to the fullest, meeting her forever best friend Gloria.
Life presented Mary with many exciting adventures – including marriage, 4 children, and later, another marriage to an avid horseman and businessman, where they raised a blended family of 9 children in Washingtonville, NY.
She was an office manager of the family business, Modern Masonry and Eastern Concrete, as well as in her later years, employed by Homemakers of Orange County, where she was a superstar home health aide and the most preferred companion, personally requested by many families to help with their loved one. She could often be found knitting or crocheting all kinds of things, including tiny bonnets for the premature babies to wear while in the hospital.
Mom considered herself the #1 fan of Elvis, in fact, she loved to talk about seeing Elvis in concert twice – once in Vegas and once in Honolulu.
Mom loved Perkins restaurant for breakfast (her favorite meal of the day) as well as any diner in the area, where we often joked she could always find the most expensive item on the menu. She also loved scratch off tickets – saying one day she would hit it big and be rich. In her last seasons, her warrior spirit taught us that we are all already rich, in our hearts.
Mary is survived by her son Michael (wife Peggy) in Newburgh, her daughter Salvatreice in Yonkers, and her daughter Tina Esposito in Montgomery. Her son Frankie predeceased her, and we rejoice in knowing they are reunited in heaven.
The shining stars in her life were definitely her grandchildren, Nikolas (Brittany) Esposito, Michael (Robyn) Esposito, and Mia Esposito. Mom had four great grandchildren, Elliana and Roman, daughter and son of Nikolas and Brittany, and Mason and Luke, sons of Michael and Robyn. The final seasons of her life robbed her of getting to know them, but we know she will eternally watch over them from heaven.
Mary is also survived by her brother, Roger Moore of Newport News, VA, and a nephew, John Cairns, in Yokosuka, Japan. Mary is predeceased by her sister, Joan Cairns and nephew Tommy Cairns.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Cabrini, including the nurses and staff on Mezzanine, her social worker, and all of the lovely nurse aides who quite simply are angels who wear purple scrubs. We will forever be grateful of having a home for our mom, overlooking the Hudson River, with dozens of people who loved her and who became an extension of our family.
Visitation will be held on Sunday June 9, 2024 at Brooks Funeral Home 481 Gidney Ave, Newburgh from 2PM to 5PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 145 Benkard Ave, Newburgh on Monday June 10, 2024, at 10am.
