Obituary

Mary T. Murphy

July 21, 1969 ~ June 3, 2026

Wallkill, NY

Mary Murphy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a two year battle with Stage 4 Cervical Cancer. She was 56 years old.

Born and raised in Astoria, Queens, on July 21, 1969, Mary was the cherished daughter of Raymond and Theresa Tropeano. She shared a loving marriage with her husband, Kevin Murphy, and was a devoted mother to Kevin Murphy Jr., Jacalyn Fiechter, Kristen Fiechter, and Nevaeh Jackson. She also lovingly welcomed her bonus daughters, Lucy and Janelle, into her family. Mary cherished her children’s partners, Audie, Angie, Jonathan, and Andrew, embracing them as family and holding each close to her heart.

Mary's greatest joy was her family. She adored her grandchildren, Lucas, Taytum, Alessi, and Sutton, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Baby Aponte and Baby Murphy. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara and husband Richard Nesbit; her niece, Gaetana Miller and son Kai; and her nephew, Richard Nesbit.

Mary had a heart big enough for everyone. She treated her friends and their children as family and was known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. She also cherished her beloved dogs, Ladell, Kane, Stella, and Winston.

She was a sports fanatic that you could hear chanting from miles away, and never missed a box during the Super Bowl. She was a makeup mogul, who was never afraid to be bold. Her nails were always done to perfection, and she had a pair of glasses to match each outfit.

Mary spent 25 years supporting her family while working at Hunter College, where she retired in March of 2024. She was a dedicated employee who was respected by many, and the friendships she made there became an extension of her family. To many, she was their work mom.

Mary's warmth, strength, and selfless spirit touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Please join us to celebrate Mary’s life at Brooks Funeral Home on June 13th, 2026, located at 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550. There will be two viewings; first viewing will be from 12:00pm to 2:00pm and second viewing from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.

We ask that in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cervical Cancer Foundation on behalf of Mary.
