MaryAnn Flynn of Newburgh, NY passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020. She was 79.
The daughter of the late Mercedes (DeWitt) and Thomas Flynn. Mary Ann was born January 11, 1941, in Cornwall, NY.
She attended Mount St. Mary's Academy High School and graduated the Masters to Doctorate Degree program in Psychology from the Catholic University.
MaryAnn was a member of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh where she faithfully served for 20 years as an educator of both grammar and high school students. After leaving the convent, she worked as a social worker for troubled teens in the Bronx which led to her position as a social worker at Lighthouse International in Manhattan until her retirement in 2005. During this time she was also a dedicated member of HEC (Handicap Encounter Christ) for 40 years.
She is survived by her sister Kathleen Long, nephew Jay Long, several cousins, close friends, and five step-children.
MaryAnn was predeceased by her parents and husband James.
MaryAnn will be remembered for her generosity, quick wit, and brilliant mind.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in MaryAnn's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 27 from 4-7 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. Mass will be held Tuesday, January 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 55 Grand St., Newburgh.
