Michael R. Fedigan
August 29, 1946 ~ April 24, 2025
Newburgh, NY
Michael R. Fedigan, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, at the age of 78. His passing was swift and dramatic, merciful and kind. We are grateful there was no suffering or prolonged period of disability. It was the way he would have wanted it; to work to the very end at the calling he loved so well.
Born on August 29, 1946, to Irene and James Fedigan, Michael was the youngest boy of 11 children. Tenderly known to his nieces and nephews as "Uncle Mickey," his life was marked by warmth, kindness, and a deep commitment to his family and community. He was rarely seen without a smile on his face, always ready with a laugh, a story, or a helping hand.
Michael was an integral part of the theatre community for nearly his entire life. A proud member of IATSE Local #1 for 55 years, he was the Fly Man at the Lyric Theatre from its inception in 1998, his steady presence as enduring and essential as the steel that held the theater together. He loved New York City, running the NYC Marathon several times and often biking through Central Park between shows.
He generously volunteered his time with Artists on Campus and the Newburgh Historical Society, offering his carpentry skills on many projects.
Michael loved traveling with his wife of 54 years, Gayle Clark Fedigan, following her on many trips for work and adventure. Together they made many journeys to Ireland, as well as to Italy, Spain, and France, making friends wherever they went.
He also enjoyed hiking, biking, and spending time at his cabin in the Adirondacks, and fishing and sailing on Lake Champlain in Westport, NY.
Above all, Michael cherished spending time with his friends and family — sharing meals, laughter, and stories that will be remembered for years to come.
Michael is predeceased by his beloved daughter, Caitlin Fedigan; his parents, James and Irene Fedigan; his sisters, Maureen Ryan and Patricia Fedigan; his brothers, Kenneth Fedigan, Chris Fedigan, and Father James J. Fedigan, S.J.; his son-in-law, Greg Stiles; his nieces, Debbie Palmer, Laura Lengle, and Patricia "Patty" Fedigan; and his nephew, Orio Palmer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gayle Clark Fedigan; his daughters, Courtney Clem and Laura Fedigan; his son, Thomas Fedigan; his grandchildren, Vance, Chenoa, Chloe, and Parker; and his siblings, Eilene, Eugene, John, Robert, Cathy, and Maryellen.
Family and friends are invited to honor Michael's life during visitation hours on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home, located at 481 Gidney Ave, Newburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 29, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 1209 Route 9W, Marlboro, NY. Following the service, Michael will be laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5469 Route 9W, Newburgh, NY.
