Michael K. Thompson II

June 7, 1955 ~ August 22, 2024

Newburgh, NY

Michael K. Thompson II left this world to be with Jesus on August 22, 2024, after his long battle with diabetes.

Mike was born on June 7, 1955 in Newburgh, NY to Michael (deceased) and Emanuella Thompson. He grew up with his sister, Toni (married to Ron Revelle) and his brothers, Joe (married to Laura Rose), Robert (deceased), and Philip (married to Kathy McEwen).  As a child, Mike, along with his siblings, was close to his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins.  He attended Newburgh and Valley Central Schools, graduating from Valley Central High School in 1973.  Following in his father's footsteps, he earned an Associate Degree in Construction Technology at SUNY Delhi. Mike joined the Carpenters Local Union and worked in construction until he went on disability.

Mike always loved being outdoors, from catching crayfish, swimming in Brookside Pond and Orange Lake, building and racing go carts, and setting up tree forts with his brothers, cousins, and friends to tending to the expansive property in Coldenham, to which he, along with his family, moved in 1968. He also loved riding his motorcycle, playing his guitar, and watching science fiction movies.

Mike was a generous, kind, and gentle person. When he was feeling well, he was the one who encouraged family to get together on a weekend evening. He had an outstanding memory and delighted in retelling stories from our childhood.  He enjoyed hearing about his nieces and nephews and liked talking with them about their interests and activities.

Mike's faith was important to him. He received his sacraments at Sacred Heart Church as a child, and as an adult, liked to read his Bible and discuss what he learned with whomever showed an interest. As his family, we are so grateful that God has kept Mike in His care throughout his life. Although there were many difficult times, there was never any doubt that Love has seen us through.

We are also grateful to the many medical and mental health professionals and staff who ministered to Mike throughout his adult life, with special appreciation for LeAnn Eggleston, who gave so much of herself seeing to his needs while he lived at the Cornerstone Residence.

We pray that the love that is present in our family, through the Grace of God, will carry Mike home, to where he can experience true, everlasting peace.

A funeral Mass will be offered for Mike at Most Precious Blood Church in Walden on Friday, August 30,2024 at 10:30AM, followed by burial at Wallkill Valley Cemetery in Walden.
