Mildred Louise DaCruz Alexander, lovingly known as "Lou," passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family
Residence in Newburgh, New York, on August 10, 2025
Mildred was born on March 27, 1936, in Brooklyn New York, to Miguel and Mae DaCruz. She was the fourth
of eleven siblings. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Douglas Alexander, and by her siblings
Rose, Gloria, Joseph, Frederica, Floretta, Kenneth, Dian, and Shirley.
She leaves behind her son Andre her daughter in law Sophia and her step daughter and stepson Darralyn, and
David Alexander, also her grand-children Jocelyn, Andre Jr, Michael, Chantel, Naomi, Brandy, Amber, David,
Kakiva, Travis, Andre, and Eric she also leaves behind a host of great grand-children and many nieces and
nephews. She is survived by her sister Nadene Haskins and her brother Miguel DaCruz.
Mildred graduated from Sarah J. Hale High School, where she was recognized for her talents and achievements.
After high school, she became a skilled dressmaker and dedicated much of her professional life to the Bedford-
Stuyvesant Community Health Center until her retirement.
Mildred was known for her love of crossword puzzles and her fondness for soap operas, She also found great
joy in shopping, often indulging in her favorite pastimes of browsing QVC, filling up her Amazon cart, and
ordering groceries through Instacart with excitement and ease. The main highlight of her days was receiving
emails of pictures of her great grandchildren. As a devoted Catholic, she lived a life full of quiet strength, deep
love, and unwavering resilience.
A celebration of Mildred's life will be held on
September 20, 2025

Cemetery
, where she will be interred alongside her beloved husband Douglas Alexander.
