Mirtha Discua de Quinonez

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Mirtha Discua de Quiñónez, who departed this world on July 5, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on June 17, 1956, in San Marcos, Santa Barbara, Honduras, Mirtha was the cherished daughter of Graciela and Saturnino. Her life was a testament to strength, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. 

Mirtha leaves behind her beloved husband, Alirio Quiñónez, with whom she shared a beautiful life journey. She was a devoted mother to her children, Marvin Navarro and his wife Yamileth Arenas and Zully Ortega and her husband Luis Ortega. She was also a loving stepmother to Yadira Quiñónez and her husband, Charlie Rodriguez, and Alex Quiñónez and his wife, Samara Quiñónez, embracing them with the same love and care that defined her family life. She found immense joy in being a grandmother to Aaliyah Y Navarro, Isaac Ortega Quiñónez, Marvin Adrian Navarro, and Luis Elijah Ortega Quiñónez. Her love, wisdom, and gentle spirit will continue to live on through them. 

She was a beloved sister to her siblings Mayra, Glenda, Sandra, Hernan, Milton, Borgas Family, Doris, Ana, and Manrique, and a caring niece to her aunts Mercedes, Elba, and Gloria. Mirtha’s life was also graced by the enduring friendships she shared with her best friends, Gloria Aguilar, Mercedes Perez, and Alba Lainez. 

Although Mirtha completed her formal education through the sixth grade in Honduras, her determination and courage led her to pursue a brighter future for her family. In 1982, she immigrated to the United States, carrying with her little more than hope, resilience, and an unwavering work ethic. Through years of dedication and perseverance, she built a life rooted in love, faith, and opportunity. 

In 2003, Mirtha fulfilled a lifelong dream by founding her own business, Zulimar. What began with hard work and determination grew into a successful business that not only provided for her family but also became a valued part of the community she proudly called home. Her love for baking and cooking was well-known, and she delighted in sharing this passion with others. Mirtha also enjoyed creating and selling jewelry, spreading beauty and joy in her area. 

Mirtha was renowned for her warmth, generosity, and acceptance of others. Her unwavering support and kindness touched the lives of many, and she will be remembered as a cornerstone of her community. Her story is one of effort and dedication, a legacy of honest work that will inspire generations to come. 

A service to celebrate Mirtha's life will be held on  Sunday, July 12th from 12:00pm-6:00pm at Brooks Funeral Home located at 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY.

A Mass of the Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Church at 11:00am on Monday, July 13th located at 55 Grand Street, Newburgh, NY.

A burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery located at 304 Walsh Ave, New Windsor, NY.

Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the memory of a remarkable woman who was, and always will be, forever in our hearts. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mirtha’s memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting her spirit of giving. May Mirtha Discua de Quiñónez rest in eternal peace, embraced by God's love and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing.

Con profunda tristeza y un inmenso sentimiento de pérdida anunciamos el fallecimiento de Mirtha Discua de Quiñónez, quien partió de este mundo el 5 de julio de 2026, a la edad de 70 años. Nacida el 17 de junio de 1956 en San Marcos, Santa Bárbara, Honduras, Mirtha fue la querida hija de Graciela y Saturnino. Su vida fue un testimonio de fortaleza, calidez y una dedicación inquebrantable a su familia y a su comunidad. 

Mirtha deja a su amado esposo, Alirio Quiñónez, con quien compartió un hermoso camino de vida. Fue una madre entregada para sus hijos, Marvin Navarro y su esposa Yamileth Arenas, y Zully Ortega y su esposo Luis Ortega. También fue una amorosa madrastra para Yadira Quiñónez y su esposo, Charlie Rodriguez, y Alex Quiñónez y su esposa, Samara Quiñónez, acogiéndose con el mismo amor y cuidado que definieron su vida familiar. Encontró una inmensa alegría en ser abuela de Aaliyah Y Navarro, Isaac Ortega Quiñónez, Marvin Adrian Navarro y Luis Elijah Ortega Quiñónez. Su amor, sabiduría y espíritu bondadoso seguirán viviendo a través de ellos. 

Fue una querida hermana de sus hermanos Mayra, Glenda, Sandra, Hernán, Milton, la familia Borgas, Doris, Ana y Manrique, y una sobrina cariñosa para sus tías Mercedes, Elba y Gloria. La vida de Mirtha también estuvo enriquecida por las duraderas amistades que compartió con sus mejores amigas, Gloria Aguilar, Mercedes Perez y Alba Lainez. 

Aunque Mirtha completó su educación formal hasta el sexto grado en Honduras, su determinación y valentía la llevaron a buscar un futuro mejor para su familia. En 1982, emigró a los Estados Unidos, llevando consigo poco más que esperanza, resiliencia y una inquebrantable ética de trabajo. A través de años de dedicación y perseverancia, construyó una vida basada en el amor, la fe y las oportunidades. 

En 2003, Mirtha hizo realidad un sueño de toda la vida al fundar su propio negocio, Zulimar. Lo que comenzó con esfuerzo y determinación se convirtió en un negocio exitoso que no solo sostuvo a su familia, sino que también llegó a ser una parte valiosa de la comunidad que con orgullo llamó su hogar. Su amor por la repostería y la cocina era bien conocido, y disfrutaba compartir esa pasión con los demás. Mirtha también disfrutaba crear y vender joyería, llevando belleza y alegría a su comunidad. 

Mirtha era reconocida por su calidez, generosidad y aceptación de los demás. Su apoyo incondicional y su bondad tocaron la vida de muchas personas, y será recordada como un pilar de su comunidad. Su historia es una de esfuerzo y dedicación, un legado de trabajo honesto que inspirará a las generaciones venideras. 

Se llevará a cabo un servicio para celebrar la vida de Mirtha el domingo 12 de julio de 12:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m. en Brooks Funeral Home, ubicado en 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY.

Una Misa de entierro cristiano se celebrará en la Iglesia de San Patricio a las 11:00 a.m. del lunes 13 de julio, ubicada en 55 Grand Street, Newburgh, NY.

El entierro seguirá en el Cementerio Calvary, ubicado en 304 Walsh Ave, New Windsor, NY.

En lugar de flores, la familia solicita que se hagan donaciones en memoria de Mirtha a una organización benéfica de su elección, como reflejo de su espíritu generoso. Que Mirtha Discua de Quiñónez descanse en paz eterna, abrazada por el amor de Dios y recordada por siempre por todos aquellos que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla.
