Neil Damon-Jody Peterson Jr. was born on April 02, 1973 in Newburgh, NY to Loraine Georgia Burnett and Walter Neil Peterson Sr. He was also loved and raised by paternal aunt and uncle, Thelma Edna Spearman Melvin and William Lee Melvin. His earthy journey ended on February 18, 2025, at the age of 51.
Neil, known as Jody, received his formal education from Newburgh Free Academy and worked at Hannaford's for four years. He had a passion for cooking, attending concerts with his wife, cheering on the Chicago Bulls, dancing with his grandchildren and family, and daily visits with his special sister Beverly. Neil's favorite music groups were New Edition and Boyz II Men. His laughter, love, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Neil was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence brought warmth and joy to those around him.
Neil shared 27 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Jennifer Hulse-Peterson. Together, they built a loving family. Those left to cherish fond memories are his wife; mother, Loraine Georgia Burnett; five daughters—Tinaequia, Brittany, Jochaya, Eliora, and Kadijha Peterson; two sons, Keanu(Gisselle) and Caleb (Baby Caleb) Peterson, all from Newburgh, NY; seven grandchildren—Kah'mari, Amyilah, Kailani, King, Cairo, Empress, and Pharaoh Peterson all from Newburgh, NY; four sisters Yvette Melvin, LaJoyce Burnett, Letrecia Woody, Quayia Davis; six brothers Lavar Ruffin, Milford Jacobs, Omar Peterson, Walter Jacobs, Martell Davis, and Raymond Burnett; in addition he was also raised with Warren Melvin Sr, Rachel Melvin, Beverly Melvin, Don Melvin, Herman Alan Melvin and a host of aunts uncles; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, March 1 from 1 - 3 PM.
