Obituary

Nicholas J. DeCarlo
August 1st, 1937 ~ April 16th, 2023
Nicholas "Nick" James DeCarlo of the Town of Newburgh entered into rest on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at the age of 85.
Nicholas hailed from the Bronx, where he grew up with his parents, Pasquale and Lillian of both Italian and Polish decent, and his siblings Johnny and Theresa. In his youth, Nicholas enjoyed many of the traditional Bronx street sports like stick-ball and handball, along with a few dare-devilish activities such as jumping across rooftops. He enjoyed playing in Crotona Park and horseback riding in Central Park. He attended P.S. 4 in the Bronx and excelled in his all-boys high school, with a great love for mathematics and science. Nick placed such a high value on education, and would later encourage and support his children and grandchildren in their own academic endeavors.
Nick met his future wife Mary, and married on August 16, 1958. They spent their courtship enjoying the Red Apple Rest in Tuxedo, Orchard Beach, White Castle Hamburgers, Drive-in Movies and Bear Mountain. In later years, they enjoyed an afternoon cup of coffee and a donut at Dunkin', and a ride over to Barnes & Noble to select books to read at home together. Nick became a self-employed salesman and distributor for Joyce Beverages/Seven-Up Bottling Co. in New Rochelle/Newburgh for 35 years working tirelessly daily from before sunrise until after sunset, as he had an incredible work ethic. During their 64 years together Nicholas and Mary continued to nurture their family, raising and watching over their four children, while guiding and supporting them with a passion, as they grew into adulthood raising their own families. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in August. Nick considered family to be the most important thing in life. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy and he and Mary never missed any special event. Breakfast at their home on Sundays was a regular occurrence. As the family patriarch, Nicholas guided and loved his entire family immensely. He never hesitated to express that he was "so very proud" of each and every one of them, whether it be in person, a phone call or in a greeting card.
Nick will be greatly, greatly missed for his never-ending love and support. Nick is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary (Napoli) DeCarlo; his children Lillian (Wayne), Nick (Tracy), Frank (Angela), Diane (David); his grandchildren Charles Nicholas (Lindsay), Lori Ann (Chris), Gina Ann, Nicholas, Michael (Sydney), Zachary, Frankie, Anthony, Vincent, Kayleigh Fay, DJ; his great grandchildren Emily, Owen, Charlotte, Miley; his sister Theresa, brother-in-law, Conrad, and their daughters Teresa and Godchild Bernadette; sister-in-law, Anna. Nick is also survived by a large loving extended family and cherished close friends. He was predeceased by his brother, John.
