Obituary

Nicholas John DeMaro Sr.

December 27, 1921 ~ July 21, 2025

Nick passed away peacefully on July 21 at the age of 103. Predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, Angelina Gallo DeMaro.

He leaves behind his two sons, Nicholas DeMaro and his wife Cindy, and Francis DeMaro and his wife Barbara. Nick loved his grandchildren who he leaves behind with fun and loving memories that they will never forget. His grandsons: Frank and his wife Stacie, Nicholas and his wife Bernadette, Matt and his wife Amanda, and granddaughter Christy Hoffmann and her husband Timothy, who will always remember their Papa with love, affection, and a ton of smiles.

As Nick grew older and his family grew bigger, he stayed active with all his great-grandchildren. He leaves behind great-grandsons and great-granddaughters: Frankie, Jake and Dylan, Nicholas and Skyla, Mia and Luke, and Mateo and Luca. Papa taught them songs, told them stories, got them off their bus, and loved every minute of his time with them. He thoroughly enjoyed the fun games in a full house on many Christmas Eves he hosted. They all know the true meaning of being showered with love because they had him as their Papa.

Anyone who knew Nick knew he was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back or the last dollar in his pocket. Always one with a kind word who could easily enjoy anyone's company and who could always laugh at himself, he took pride in being the best person he could be. Whether you were born into the family or married into it, he made you feel important, connected, but most of all loved.

An active man in the community, Nick was part of many organizations over the years, including the Italian Club, Elks, and UNICO. He received the honor of Man of the Year for UNICO for his service. He would do everything from selling tickets for events to cooking behind a grill for hours on the day of. No matter the job, Nick was up for it and gave his all.

His family will always remember his stories of being a liquor salesman, working at the family-owned Glenwood Restaurant, which hosted some of the most prominent figures in entertainment and government at the time, and the owner of a local ice cream stand.

Nick built a beautiful life with his wife. He would say he couldn't have imagined it back when he was tossing pennies, he couldn't afford to toss into a fountain in Newburgh just to impress a girl. And he did just that. He impressed Angelina, and the rest is a beautiful history that the two of them created together. And now, they can hold each other again, forever in love, to watch over their blessings.
