Patricia Hopper passed away on April 22, 2022. She was born in Newburgh, the eldest child of Henry and Emma Barton.
She attended St. Patrick's, Mount Saint Mary's High School, Mount Saint Mary's College where she received her bachelors and her masters from New Paltz. She was an educator in the Newburgh School District starting at Liberty Street School. She was a math specialist at Vails Gate and 5th grade at Meadow Hill School most of her career. She was the NYS Math Teacher of the Year.
She is survived by her loving husband David Doestch, her sister Mary Frances Barr and her husband Dennis Barr, their daughters Lori Dwyer and Lynn Barr. She leaves behind her daughter Patricia Sofokles and her children Bradley, Nicholas and Alexandra Sofokles. Her granddaughters Dr. Kathryn Hopper and Kayle Hopper and grandson William Hopper. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Henry Barton and her son William Dewitt Hopper.
At her request there will be no services. There will be a tree planting in Downing Park in the spring next to her son William Hooper. There will be a reception following in the Shelter House.
