Peter R. Phillips
October 16, 1939 ~ April 19, 2025
Peter R. Phillips (85) died on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at home, after a short illness. Peter was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
on October 16, 1939, to John and Mary Phillips.
He was an avid member of the Australian Catholic Walking Club there and spent many happy days hiking throughout Victoria and Tasmania,
later boasting of his cooking skills, bush tucker specialty "damper",
often in dire weather and circumstances.
In retirement, Peter volunteered in the Soup Kitchen at St. Patrick's church for many years and with Habitat for Humanity of Newburgh. He was a serious reader who built
our home library from many, many book sales at the Newburgh Library. He was also a very fine photographer.
Most importantly, he was a man of strong faith and had a generous heart for his charities.
At the end of his illness, he looked forward to
"God's good plan for me."
He frequently warmed his wife's heart when he quoted to her:
"Who can find a woman of worth? Far beyond jewels is her value..." (Proverbs 31: 10-12)
A heartfelt thank you to all at St. Luke's Hospital (from valet men, security to nurses and doctors)
and to Hospice Home Care
for their help, care, and many kindnesses.
Peter is survived by Mary Phillips, wife of 56 years, son Robert (Texas), daughter, Peggy (Bill Rella) in Schenectady, daughter-in-law Meredith (North Carolina) and grandchildren
