Pietro "Pete"
Colangelo
February 17, 1949 – May 31, 2025
Pietro Colangelo
February 17, 1949 ~ May 31, 2025
Pietro "Pete" Colangelo, age 76, of Newburgh, NY, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at his family home, surrounded by those who loved him most.
Pete was born on February 17, 1949, in the picturesque town of Pacentro, Italy, to Pasquale "Patsy" Colangelo and Virginia Marchionda. He immigrated to the United States with his family as a young boy, carrying with him the values of loyalty, humility, and deep-rooted family devotion that would define his life.
At 18 years old, Pete spent his birthday at Camp Lejeune after enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal on December 28, 1972. In 1970, Pete became a naturalized U.S. citizen, a milestone that meant a great deal to him. He remained proud of his military service and was a frequent visitor to the American Legion, where he formed lasting bonds with fellow veterans. In August 2018, he was honored with a Certificate of Distinguished Service in recognition of his dedication and valor as a U.S. Marine.
After returning home from war and marrying the love of his life, Teresa Colangelo, Pete settled into a steady and honorable life. He worked as a truck driver for the United States Postal Service in Manhattan, where he was known for his dependability and strong work ethic. Over the decades, Pete became a quiet pillar of his family—someone who led by example and never asked for recognition.
Pete had a love for the simple but meaningful things in life. He cared deeply for his family and their home and was also the devoted caretaker of three beloved family dogs: Leo, Baxter, and Nala. He had a vivid imagination and loved immersing himself in fantasy novels and science fiction movies, especially Conan the Barbarian and Star Trek. These small escapes brought him joy and reflected his appreciation for storytelling, loyalty, and bravery.
Pete is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Colangelo; his son Patsy Colangelo and daughter-in-law Marissa Colangelo; his son Anthony Colangelo and fiancée Diamonique Gurny; and his daughter Nicole Colangelo. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Lorenzo Zachary, Lennox Beyah, Santino, Thomas, and Nicholas Colangelo.
He is predeceased by his parents, Pasquale Colangelo and Virginia Marchionda, and by his mother-in-law, Antoinette Sandrini.
To those who knew him, Pete was more than a Marine, husband, father, or grandfather—he was a great man, a humble soul with a sharp wit, a generous heart, and an unshakable sense of integrity. He was deeply loved by his family and respected by many. His quiet strength, fierce loyalty, and deep love for those close to him will continue to inspire and guide all who had the privilege to know him.
