Rachel Fitzgibbons

June 9, 1931 ~ February 13, 2026

Rachel Fitzgibbons, of Newburgh, NY entered into rest on Friday, February 13, 2026 at her home.

She was 94. Born in Newburgh on June 9, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Francesco "Chico" and Clementina (Calcagno) Ruotolo.

Rachel was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and Mount Saint Mary College where she majored in Elementary Education. Rachel married William "Bill" Fitzgibbons, the love of her life, who predeceased her in 2009. She retired from the Newburgh Enlarged City School District after teaching at Temple Hill Elementary School for over 20 years.

Rachel was also a talented folk artist, specializing in acrylic and oil painting. Many of her unique art pieces can be found in the homes of her cherished family and friends. After retiring from education, she continued to volunteer in elementary classrooms where she shared her artistic talents with young students. Rachel was devoted to her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unforgettable memories.

Rachel is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Pizzo and her husband Ralph; her beloved grandsons William "Billy" Lastowski and his wife Jennifer, Michael "Mikey" Lastowski and his fiancé Melissa; her great-granddaughters Kyla and Rachel Lastowski; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Anna Mekeel, Jenny Catania, Francis Zambito, Carmella Moroney, and June McKnight; and her brother Frank Ruotolo.

A memorial service will be held from 2-4 pm on Saturday, February 21 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh.
