Raymond E.
Chin
March 9, 1958 – August 9, 2021
Raymond Edward (Ray) Chin
March 9, 1958 ~ August 9, 2021
Newburgh, NY
Raymond Edward (Ray) Chin was born on March 9, 1958 in Columbia Hospital, New York, NY. He passed away on August 9, 2021 in New York City.
He leaves his daughter, Mackenzie A. Chin and his son Reilly E. Chin, his mother Gladys Eng Chin, his father Gilbert P. Chin, his brother Richard M. Chin and sister-in-law Judy Chin, who were very supportive in Ray's life, his niece Rachel J. Chin and nephew Jason R. Chin, his uncles Eugene Chin (Dorothy Yick), Perry Chin (Joyce Gwon), Irving Chin (Mary Wong), aunts Barbara Leong Chin, Lilly Mah Chin, Helen (Chin) Eng, and many cousins from both the Chin and Eng clans, and Dennis Coffey his "stepdad/friend/mentor".
Rich was there to help Ray through some rough patches in his life, but Ray was always available for his kids during their sports activities.
Dennis was there to "fix up" his "screw ups" since Ray was all thumbs.
Ray graduated from Queens College with a BA in Accounting and St. John's University with an MBA in Finance. He also spent almost 2 years in Europe working and enjoying it. He learned to drive a "stick shift" and on the right-hand side of the road while stationed on the Isle of Man.
His career started in banking, but he later wanted to try his hand at owning a sushi restaurant which evolved into his online nickname, "Sushi Ray". Although he didn't have any experience in the restaurant business, let alone making sushi, he learned the trade and enjoyed the business.
His passion turned to food, eating it and cooking it. He certainly developed an educated palate, but don't know about his cooking!!!
His main and real passion was his children and their sports involvement. Through the soccer games he met many other soccer parents and they all became good friends through their camaraderie. His family formed a very close familial bond with his best friends the Hunts, Nubia and Lane and the Bulusans, Brenda and Jeff. They became known as the HUBUCHI's an acronym of their last names. The kids all went to school together and the three oldest of each family graduated together Sydney Hunt, Isabella Bulusan and Mackenzie Chin.
In the early days Ray enjoyed bowling, tennis, skiing and volleyball and was pretty good at it. He seemed to be a natural born athlete.
There was a small family service held due to time constraints. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at the end of the year, with more information to come later. All who wish to attend are welcome.
