Obituary

Richard P. Mauro

August 14, 1971 ~ September 1, 2024

Gardiner, NY

Richard P. Mauro, a resident of Gardiner, NY passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

Rich was born on August 14, 1971 in Mount Kisco, NY to Kathleen Ostrander and John Mauro.

Rich attended Newburgh Free Academy and up until recently was employed by LKQ Corporation as a driver.

Rich was a jack of all trades, there was nothing he could not do (or at least try).  He had a love of old Buicks and always enjoyed a weekend car show. He taught himself to fix cars and then to build custom choppers. When it came to music – it was Rich's therapy.

He was a talented musician and collector of Guitars, some of which, he built with his own hands, another self-taught hobby.  Rich was a lover of live music – you could typically find him at a local venue hanging out with whatever band might be playing that night.

Rich held many titles throughout his life, but none fit better, than Father/Grandfather.   Every free moment was spent with his son, Nico and Grandchildren, Angelo and Nicolette.  When he was not with the kids, he was bragging about them to his friends.

He was especially proud of the Father that his son had become. Rich never met anyone that did not become a fast friend, he was loyal and would go to the ends of the Earth for a friend in need.

Rich was a proud Father and Grandfather.  His love for his family unparalleled.  Rich is survived by his Son, Nico Mauro, grandchildren, Angelo Mauro and Nicolette Rae Mauro as well as Nico's mother and Rich's friend, Tracy DeMarino.  Rich is further survived by Leanne Smykla, his brothers, Robert Mauro (Kim) of New Windsor, Damien Mauro and Brandon Mauro and sister, Jasmine Mauro Wagner (Chris) both of Connecticut. Nieces, Kayla (Brian) and Rhianna as well as his great nieces, Sierra and Brooklyn.   Rich had many, many friends from many walks of life.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but most especially by the friends he considered family. Rich was a lover of animals, and spent many hours on his back deck watching the owls and his hummingbird "Roger" as well as other wildlife.  His dog Elwood and cats, Metal Kitty and Vato will be lost without him.

Rich was predeceased by his mother and Step-father, Kathleen and Jackson Ostrander of Newburgh and John Mauro of Connecticut.

Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home 481 Gidney Ave, Newburgh on Saturday September 7 from 1PM ~ 4PM.
