Richard D. Persen
January 25, 1947 ~ July 3, 2023
Richard D. Persen of Newburgh, NY passed away on July 3, 2023, at Montefiore
Hospital, Bronx, NY after a brief illness. He was 76 years old. He was the son of Eileen
(Rusty) Persen and William Donald Persen. He was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in
Suffren, NY. He graduated from Clarkstown Highschool in New City, NY. He attended
Iona College as a pre-medical biology major as well studying chemistry and English.
and completed graduate work at RPI as a clinical chemist. During Vietnam he served in
the US Army stationed at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas as a
clinical instructor.

After the Army Richard worked for Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY as a Medical
Technologist and went on to work in clinical diagnostics at Union Carbide. He worked for
several years in medical advertising honing his skills as a technical writer. He moved to
Orange County and worked as a documentation manager at GreytagMacbeth in
Newburgh, NY continuing technical writing and documenting of software. He was an
information developer for ORACLE Corporation in Tarrytown, NY. He was responsible
for software documentation and assuring the documentation was translated accurately
into many languages.

Richard was an avid reader of non-fiction and a constant researcher on a wide variety of
topics. He was a true wordsmith and loved writing. He loved helping others, his family
and especially college students. He was truly dedicated to Iona college and sought
ways to enhance the current experiences for today's students. During his retirement he
served as the Chairperson for the Iona College School of Arts and Science Dean's
Advisory Committee. He also volunteered with the Medical Reserve Corps of Orange
County.

Richard was predeceased by his parents Rusty and Don Persen. He is survived by his
loving wife Judith Boyd-Persen, nephew Kevin Boyd and his family, and nephew Brian
Boyd. He will be greatly missed by his many cousins who considered him to be the
bond that held their extended family together.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on July 29, 2023, from 11am
until 1pm.
