Richard H. Ward Sr.
July 7, 1934 ~ May 13, 2026
Richard H. Ward, Sr., lovingly known as "Snookie", a lifelong resident of Marlborough, entered into heavenly rest on May 13, 2026. Born in Newburgh, New York, he was the son of the late Richard A. Ward and Mabel Thompson Ward. During his youth, he was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd and remained a devoted longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church in Marlborough. Richard proudly served his country as a Navy Veteran and dedicated many years of service as an Operating Engineer with Local 825.
More than anything, Snookie will be remembered for the joy, kindness and spirit he brought to everyone around him. He was the kind of man whose smile lit up the bleachers, whose laughter carried through every gathering, and whose unwavering support could always be counted on. Whether attending a sporting event, concert, graduation or award ceremony, Snookie was always there - cheering the loudest, beaming with pride, and making those around him feel loved and celebrated.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and recently a proud great-grandfather, Snookie treasured his family above all else. He took immense pride in the accomplishments and happiness of his children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to encourage and support them. His presence was a constant source of warmth, strength, and love.
Snookie enjoyed watching football - especially cheering on the New York Jets - as well as golfing, playing darts, solving crosswords and puzzles, and embracing life as an all-around sportsman. No matter the occasion, you could always find him with a big smile, a positive spirit, and a heart full of enthusiasm. To know Snookie was truly a gift, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Snookie was also deeply proud of his Military Service. He served during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Wasp, was a member of the Viebey-Sutton American Legion Post 124 and proudly attended the U.S. Military Veterans Honor Flight in 2018.
He is survived by his children, Renee' & Bill Borchert of Marlboro, and Rich & Jen Ward of Cornwall; his siblings, Anne Valentino of Marlboro, Fred Ward of Highland, and Artie Ward of Florida; his cherished grandchildren, Dr. William Borchert, Abby & Drew Row, Emily and Eric Borchert, Jake Ward, Neal, Abby and Jake Pryne and his great-granddaughter, Miss Campbell J. Row, as well as several wonderful nieces and nephews.
Snookie was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Joanne L. Elliott Ward and by his daughter, Cheryl Lynn Ward. In addition to his wife and daughter, he was predeceased by his sisters, Madora Trentch and Barbara Sexton, and by his brother, James Ward.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Snookie to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 27, Marlboro, NY 12542.
