Robert J. Youlio
December 5, 1941 ~ April 5, 2023
Robert "Bob" J. Youlio gained his angel wings while surrounded by his loved ones onWednesday, April 5, 2023 after courageously fighting a battle with cancer.Born on December 5, 1941 to Lawrence and Alice (Quinn) Youlio in Newburgh, New York, hewas the youngest of nine children. Bob was born and raised in Newburgh until finally settling inMontgomery, New York in 1998. As a young boy, he faithfully served his parish, Saint Patrick'sChurch in Newburgh, as an altar boy and was also a member of the Boy Scouts. He graduatedfrom Newburgh Free Academy and attended Orange County Community College beforeenlisting in the United States Army. He proudly served 2 tours in Vietnam as a Sergeant E5,field commissioner and was honored with a Vietnam Service Medal. Upon returning from war,Bob worked for IBM, East Fishkill, as an analyst. In 1986, he met Cheryl, who turned out to bethe love of his life. While at The Ground Round in the Newburgh Mall, he bought her a drinkand offered her a candy bar, which she promptly refused since she didn't like nuts in her candybars. After 30 wonderful years of courtship and learning to avoid candy with nuts, Bob andCheryl finally tied the knot in May 2016.Bob was a renaissance man of sorts who told great stories (we aren't sure which ones tobelieve!), but most importantly, he knew how to show others he cared. He seemed to know howto fix a lot of things, or at least he gave it a try. If you got a stain on your favorite shirt, he knewhow to get it out. If you needed a lightbulb changed, he was up on a ladder before you finishedasking him to do so. He showed his love many ways; by bringing his wife coffee in bed eachmorning, walking a newly heartbroken teenager around the block, by volunteering to help out ata 4th grade classroom party or by listening and giving you the advice you needed to hear even ifyou didn't think you needed it. He attended countless chorus and band concerts, school plays, graduations, and sporting events. He was our biggest cheerleader always showing his love andsupport. He was also our family's sous chef. Inspired by the cooking channel, he was alwaystrying out new and interesting techniques and loved making fancy antipasto plates. He wasfamous for Poppy's breakfast which was served every Sunday no matter if there was companyor not. He loved his brown and serve rolls, but unfortunately, they sometimes became burn andserve rolls. He loved crab legs, beer (poppy's juice as the kids called it) and his soup had to behotter than hot and his beers had to be colder than cold. He loved fishing, watching wardocumentaries and shows about nature. He cleaned the house while loudly listening to AndreaBocelli and always ironed all his clothes, even his underwear. He loved to travel, watch football, gamble at the casinos and play Texas Hold'em with friends. He had a distinct laugh and a greatsense of humor and because of this, children were always drawn to him. He famouslyentertained his grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews with his "Fly away Jack, Flyaway Jill" shtick. He also impressed us all with his ability to tell the time by licking his finger andsticking it high up in the air. He also loved his cats, although he would never own up to it.Bob is survived and will be greatly missed by his adoring wife Cheryl, his two sons, Kerry andDarin (Sheila) Youlio, his two daughters, Michelle "Fa" (Werner) Dominguez and Tara(Christopher) Batson, his 5 grandchildren, Alexis and Tyler Youlio, Emily "Emerson" Taggartand Sydney and Karly Batson and one great grandson, Adam. Bob will also be greatly missedby his sister, Patricia Mullarkey and his brother, John (Lorraine) Youlio in addition to severalnieces and nephews. To say we are all better for having Bob in our lives is an understatement.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, brothers Lawrence (Mary) and William Youlio, sistersDoris (Seymour) Weiner, Eleanor (Matthew) Grimaldi, Loretta Youlio, Elizabeth (Raymond Pine)(Roger) Maher and brother in law John Mullarkey. The family would like to thank Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County, the West Team, for thecare and support they gave Bob and our family during this difficult time. We would also like tothank Bob's nephew, Michael Weiner, for his kindness, time and support as well. In lieu offlowers, the family requests donations to be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County,800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, New York 12550.
