Ronald (Ronnie/Ron) Wesley Lewis, 91 years & 10 months, of Newburgh, New York passed away on February 28, 2025 at the family home in Newburgh, NY
Ron was born on May 11, 1933 in a cave in Bluefields District, Westmoreland Jamaica to Alfred Lewis and Euphemia Cohall-Lewis. He was the second-to- last of 16 total siblings, affectionately called "man of business" by his father. After the death of his father, he was raised by his eldest sister Daisy in the city of Savanna La Mar, where Ronald attended Savanna La Mar All Age School. Upon completion, he began learning finishing in carpentry and construction trade and became successful at his craft building several landmark locations in the city of Savanna La Mar Westmoreland such as Savanna Mar Post Office. In Savanna he developed great friendships and mentored many apprentices. From 1970 – 1999 he worked in the US Migrant Farm Worker Program, cutting sugar cane, apple picking and working in an apple factory and advocating for better working conditions for his peers. When working for Walker's farm in Clintondale, NY, he provided his contracting skills, building vacation cottages in Lake George.
While living in the city of Savanna La Mar, Ronald met the love of his life and soulmate, Beryl Bramwell. They married on May 14, 1961 and their marriage lasted for their lifetime of 58 years together and produced 3 children. After the passing of his spouse, Ronald lived an additional 5 years. Ronald lived his life for his family and cared for others wherever and whenever he could.
Fun fact: Ronald favorite music genre is Southern Gospel – An Island/Country Westerner
Best Dad any child would seek: loving, kind, funny, hard worker and gentle.
Above all things Ronald enjoyed working with his hands, planting vegetables during his spare time. He loved working in his garden; taking care of his livestock – goat, cows, chickens, pigs, and rabbits; planting vegetables and flowers; playing dominoes; playing and teaching his kids cricket; and listening to music or watching the news.
Ronald is survived by his children: daughter Debbie Lewis-Vann and spouse, Elex Vann; son Glanville Lewis and spouse, Kadian Khan; son Dave Lewis; Carol Lewis-Ewart; grandchildren: Sade (Abby), Andrew, Javon, Sharilee, Chad, Shannon, Jahnelle-lee, Shanice, Jade, and Jermaine, Antonette, and Alicia; great grandchildren; nephews; nieces; cousins; and in-laws. He was predeceased by his wife Beryl M Bramwell – Lewis; stepdaughter Joan M. Cover; parents; and all 16 siblings; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20 from at 6 – 8pm at Brooks Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 21 at 11am at Grace Community Church, 128 Old South Plank Road, Newburgh NY 12550. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, 93 Union Ave, New Windsor NY 12553.
