Rosalie R.
Mazza
September 10, 1942 – May 6, 2015
Rosalie Rachael Lanzillotti Mazza of Newburgh, known to most people as Rose R. Mazza, entered into rest peacefully on May 6, 2015 surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late Rose Sganga and Peter J. Lanzillotti Sr., Rose was born on September 10, 1942 in Brooklyn and raised in Queens before moving to Newburgh in 1971. The family statement reads "Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, you will be sadly missed by all. She touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. She truly loved her family and friends. She felt she was the luckiest and blessed woman ever." She was a strong-willed woman, maintaining her independence, sense of humor and keeping her family entertained. She was an avid reader and liked to crochet. She loved music and couldn't get her off the dance floor. Her optimistic outlook was contagious and inspirational to everyone she encountered. She was the rock of the family. After raising her family, Rose returned to school to earn degrees in cosmetology and medical billing. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and was very active in Relay For Life. She enjoyed her employment at Crystal Run Health Care as a Financial Counselor-Medical Biller from 2002 until her retirement in September 2014. Rose is survived by her two sons, Thomas C. Mazza Jr. and Christopher T. Mazza, and one daughter, Lorraine A. Mazza, all of Newburgh, NY; grandchildren, twins Jordan and Thomas C. III, Michael, and Taylor; great-grandchild, Michael David; and several nieces, nephews and godchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Theresa and her husband Ralph Marino of Carmel, NY; two brothers, Ercole Lanzillotti of Newburgh, NY, and Peter J. Lanzillotti Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Poinciana, Florida. She was also blessed with many friends, too many to even name. In addition to her parents, Rose was predeceased by her sister-in-law Genevieve Lanzillotti in 1998, her nephew John R. Lanzillotti, and the father of her children. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, May 11th at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12th at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 145 Benkard Avenue, Newburgh, NY, with Father John Vondras officiating. Burial will follow after the cremation at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, NY, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, Rose requested donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Relay for Life. Online donations may be made by clicking on the link on the right of this page.
