Ruth E. Buck, 92, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at her daughter's home in Leonardo, New Jersey.
She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Emma Waltke, her brother Robert Waltke,her beloved daughter Rebecca in 2015, and most recently, her beloved husband Donald in 2016, to whom she was married for 58 years.
Ruth was born in West New York, NJ, and lived in Jersey City as a child. She had many happy memories spending time with her brother and double cousins. As a young girl, she and her family moved to Wallkill, NY, where she attended a one room schoolhouse with her brother and other cousins. She graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson High School in Jersey City. She attended New York University where she obtained her master's degree. Ruth was a New York City school teacher and guidance counselor at Franklin Lane High School.
In 1964, she and her husband Donald began their successful business in real estate. In 1989, Ruth and Donald moved to Ocean Grove, NJ, where they owned and operated the Shelburne Hotel until 2004. In 2010, Ruth and Donald became Florida residents and continued to work in real estate in Clearwater. Ruth continued to work full time in her business until she was 88 years old.
Throughout her life she was an active churchgoer and an avid Bible reader. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and doing crossword puzzles. She was also a talented knitter.
Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family: her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren whom she greatly loved and cherished.
She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Gutierrez and Florence (Basheer) Hoosein; her granddaughters Melanie (Roger) Oliva, Marilyn (Edwin) Touma, Jessica Gutierrez, Evelyn (Sean) McGurk, and her grandson Daniel (Tricia) Hoosein; her great-grandchildren Vivianna, Izabella, Rufino, and Zacharyah Oliva, Gabriella and Victoria Touma, Donovan, Delaney, and McKenna McGurk, and Natalie Hoosein; and her great-great grandchildren Madelyn and Davion Touma, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
She was loved and cherished by her family and will be tremendously missed by all.
Viewing will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 from 04:00-07:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 12:30 PM, with burial to follow.
