Obituary

Salvatore Anthony Mazzola

April 1, 1985-November 28, 2024

Salvatore Anthony Mazzola entered into rest on November 28, 2024. He was 39 years old. Sal was born on April 1, 1985, and lived his whole life in Marlboro, NY. Growing up, Sal was always referred to as the funniest guy around; after all, he WAS born on April Fools' Day! He loved being the center of attention. As a kid, he would always be the one doing imitations and trying to make everyone laugh. His teachers would say, "Well, he's not doing the BEST in class.... but he's so funny!" Sal loved everything to do with baseball, whether he was in Little League, playing softball, or watching his favorite team, the New York Yankees. He also avidly cheered on his Knicks and Giants, even when they "didn't have a prayer." His teenage years were filled with good times, Hillcrest house parties, and his hair blowing in the wind in his convertible. Having worked at probably half the restaurants in the area for 20 years, he would pride himself on his specialty drinks and perfect pours, often referring to himself as "the best bartender in the Hudson Valley." In later years, he worked as a truck driver delivering oil and propane in the area, making sure to greet every dog on his route. When he wasn't making a martini or delivering oil, he could be found at a nearby card table playing Texas Hold'em or Blackjack, likely winning whatever tournament he was in.

Sal was always passionate about his family and his friends. His group of childhood buddies are a band of brothers even to this day--you guys know who you are! His stories of the good times at Woodcrest were some of his fondest memories. At local shows, you could often find him directly in front of center stage, good-naturedly "booing" a certain band.... but everybody knew he couldn't be prouder to call them his best friends, never missing a gig. Long-running childhood stories and jokes could still be brought up and talked about, and he would be the first to volunteer the tales. He had to have everyone's attention for a punchline, probably embellished the details at each retelling.

Sal is survived by his beloved mother, Susan; his sister Dawn and her husband Jimmy; his niece Violet; his aunt Roxanne Infelice; and cousins Andrea, Joseph, Michael, and Erin. He lovingly cared for his cat, Mason, named for the "late, great, big" New York Knicks player, Anthony Mason.

Sal was predeceased by his father, Salvatore J. Mazzola, uncle Frederic Infelice, and grandparents Salvatore and Anna Mazzola, all of Marlboro.
