Sheila D. Warren passed away on January 21, 2023 at the age 83 and will be deeply missed.
Sheila was born on May 26, 1940 in Bayonne, NJ to Owen and Kathleen Deveney and lived in NJ until meeting her spouse, Jack, and moved to Newburgh, NY after marriage in 1967. Sheila and Jack raised their family in the beautiful Hudson Valley, and she lived in the same house until her death.
Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, who passed away 7 years ago at the age of 77. They were happily married for 49 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jim Jim Deveney, his wife, Barbara, and son, Kevin.
She is survived by her daughters Colleen & Dylan Moody of Holly Springs NC, Meghan Warren of San Diego CA; son Sean Warren of Newburgh NY; grandson Logan Moody; brother Gene and Nancy Deveney of Mt Pleasant SC; brother-in law Tom and Margaret Warren of Orangeburg NY, sister-in-law Joan Lewis of Franklin TN; and many nieces and nephews.
Sheila worked tirelessly as a community health nurse since 1962 until retirement in 2015 as the age of 75. She also worked to educate the next generation of nurses as a faculty member and supported community outreach and clinical training. Her long-term commitment and service to children with disabilities and their families was recognized with Inspire's Mary Lee Berry Award for Outstanding Service to People with Disabilities in 2012. A proud Seton Hall University alumnus, Sheila was a passionate Pirate supporter!
Travel was a favorite of Sheila's and she was always up for a trip across the country or around the world. A strong supporter of the Catholic Church, community advocacy, and children everywhere. Friends and family were very important in her life, and she was always willing to lend a supportive ear or helpful hand.
The family will have visitation at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave, Newburgh Monday January 29th 4-7pm. A Mass will be held at St Francis of Assisi Church, 145 Benkard Ave, Newburgh Tuesday January 30th 10:30am and the interment will immediately follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5468 Route 9W North, Newburgh.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sheila's name to Hudson Valley Nurses Honor Guard and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh.
