We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband and dad, Sheldon Cohen. He passed away on November 17, 2025, at the age of 82, with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Sheldon was a resident of Hopewell Junction for over 25 years and previously lived in Niskayuna and New York City, NY.

Born to a loving family on May 21, 1943, on Andrews Avenue in the Bronx. Sheldon was the son of the late Lilian and Isadore Cohen. He was the youngest of four siblings. Charlotte, Gerald and Marilyn being his older siblings. On, November 24, 1971, he married the love of his life, Savitri Cohen, in NYC whom he met in Montreal, Canada just three months earlier.

Sheldon graduated Clinton High School, and later, from City college in NYC. He went on to earn an MBA at Albany State University. Sheldon began his career as a social worker at the Bureau of Child Welfare in NYC, then worked at the Office of Drug Abuse, and concluded his career with the Department of Corrections for NY State. He retired early to take care of his loving daughter, Andrea.

Sheldon was a member at Temple Beth Jacob, in Newburgh, NY, and previously Temple Gates of Heaven in Schenectady, NY. Sheldon was a devoted sports fan who cherished watching the best New York sports teams – Yankees, Knicks, Rangers and Giants, with his family by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Savitri Cohen, his daughter Andrea Cohen, and his brother Gerald Cohen. Sheldon is preceded in death by his son Lukas Cohen, his parents Lilian and Isadore Cohen, and his two sisters, Charlotte Berns and Marilyn Tipper.

A funeral service will be held at Temple Beth Jacob on Thursday, November 20th at 10:30am located at 290 North St, Newburgh, NY 12550.

A burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery located at 5468 US-9W N, Newburgh, NY 12550.

A gathering will be held at the families home following services.
