Shirley A. Mamalis

October 7, 1936 ~ April 28, 2026

Shirley “Mama” Nikola Mamalis passed away on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, at the age of 89 surrounded by her daughter, Ann Marie, son-in-law, Alex, and grandson, Zach. She was born on October 7th, 1936 in Suffern, NY to her loving parents Harold and Margaret Coup. Shirley lived most of her life in Highland Falls, NY. At the age of 19 she married Robert Nikola and gave birth to her daughter Ann Marie. They lived a happy life together until she was widowed at the age of 59. She was remarried to Peter Mamalis whom she cared for and loved until he also passed away.

Shirley was known for her sense of humor, good, spirited nature, and the love she had for her family and friends. She enjoyed playing scrabble, Skip-Bo, and checkers (for which she was almost unbeatable) with her family members. Shirley also loved a good gin and tonic. She was able to spend the last month of her life with her loving daughter, Ann Marie and son-in-law, Alex. Her grandson, Zach, was able to visit and they were able to watch their favorite movie, The Patriot, together one last time.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Ann, her son-in-law, Alex, her grandchildren Zach, Mary, and Steven, her brother, Arthur, her cousin Pat, and many other loved ones. She was the best mother and grandmother someone could wish for. Her absence will be dearly felt by all that knew her, but we are happy she has been able to rejoin her mother, father, family, and all the others she has loved who have passed on.
