Sonia Mitchell

September 23, 1942 ~ May 24, 2025

Sonia Mitchell, of Newburgh, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on May 24, 2025. She was born on September 23, 1942, in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, to Pedro and Mercedes Ramirez.

Sonia pursued higher education and earned an associate degree from Queens Community College. She began her professional life as a New York State teacher's aide before transitioning to a career in Social Services, where she dedicated herself to helping others.

Throughout her life, Sonia embraced adventure and discovery as a world traveler. Her spiritual journey led her to become a Catholic and a Seventh-day Adventist, reflecting her deep faith and commitment to personal growth.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Robert (Robin) Badillo and Ludin (Catherine) Badillo; her sisters, Adela Ramirez and Eva Carrasquillo; grandchildren Brian, Sean, Adam, Nicholas, and Amanda; and great-grandchild Ivar.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, located at 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550.

A burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery at 71 Lake Avenue Ext., Danbury, CT 06810.

Sonia's legacy lives on through the lives she touched with kindness and compassion. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
