Stephen A. Prokosch Jr., of New Windsor and lifelong resident of the area, passed away on Monday, May 13th. Stephen was born on November, 10, 1975 in Newburgh, NY. He was 37. Stephen was employed by A. Prokosch & Sons Sheet Metal and a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 38. Starting at a young age he was ranked #4 in the national BMX circuit. He also played basketball and baseball for Newburgh Free Academy and was actively involved in the Sacred Heart CYO basketball league. Stephen always had a passion for all sports, both as a player and a fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his two favorite dogs, Stuie and Zeusers. Survivors include his parents, Stephen and Gail Prokosch; his sons Gavin Prokosch and Daniel Lee; his brother Scott Prokosch and his wife Poni and his niece Ava Marie Prokosch, all residing in Newburgh. Stephen is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins all of whom he was very close with. Additional survivors include his devoted companion Heidi Gamble who has always remained by his side and her daughters Caitlin, Candace, and Cassidy. Stephen was predeceased by his grandparents, Alfred and Annunciata Prokosch and Edward and Doris Redner. Visitation will be held from 4 - 8 pm on Friday, May 17 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 18 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Stephen's memory to the Sacred Heart Sports Program c/o John Prokosch, 12 Galloway Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550.
