   December 2, 1945 ~ March 27, 2026

   New Windsor, NY

Susan Leatherman passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, at her home in New Windsor, New York, at the age of 80.

Born Susan Carol Sulzycki on December 2, 1945 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, she often reminisced about her childhood there. She was a proud alumna of Purdue University, where she graduated with a degree in mathematics in 1967. Following her college years, she enjoyed a long and fulfilling career at IBM in Kingston, New York, where she worked alongside her future husband, Jerry. Their shared love of travel, fine wine, and culinary exploration enriched their decades together, a bond Susan continued to cherish after Jerry’s passing in 1997.

Susan was the loving mother of Jeremy and Neal and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren, Anna and Rufus, and her beloved granddog, Dashiell. She shared a passion for sports and political discussions and enjoyed following professional tennis, soccer, and football throughout her life.

A seasoned traveler, Susan explored her family's heritage in Poland and traveled the world, visiting destinations such as Hungary and Vietnam. She voyaged across the Atlantic aboard the Queen Mary II and delighted in experiencing the world’s vibrant cultures. At home, Susan was independent and resilient, most content enjoying the serenity of her Hudson River view. She was well known in her community and cherished small kindnesses, like leaving treats for her neighbors’ dogs.

Susan is survived by her loving family, including sons Jeremy Leatherman (Liz) of New York City, Neal Leatherman (Kiki) of Severn, Maryland, sister Barbara Dober (Bill) of Fairfield, Connecticut, nieces Dawn Lovuolo (Mark) and Dana Dober (Jonas). She was preceded in death by her brother, John Bancer Sulzycki; her parents, Stanley and Pauline Sulzycki; and her husband, Jerry Neal Leatherman.

Her warmth, wit, independence, and devotion to family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
