Thomas C. DeBenedictus
June 26, 1941 ~ July 7, 2024
Newburgh, NY
Thomas "Tom" "DeBen" Camillo DeBenedictus, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, NY, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his wife and children on July 7. He had recently celebrated his 83rd birthday.
Tom was born on June 26, 1941, to Dominic and Antoinette DeBenedictus. He was one of four siblings, along with Dominic DeBenedictus Jr., Joan DeBenedictus Scott, and Patricia DeBenedictus.
He married Rosanne Grieco, his "babe," on October 18, 1964, and they lived in wedded bliss just shy of 60 years. He knew she was the one when he delivered newspapers to her family's home on Ann Street in 1953.
Tom graduated NFA in 1959 and received his bachelor's degree from Adelphi University in 1964. A Certified Public Accountant, he was a founding partner of Vanacore, DeBenedictus, DiGovanni, and Weddell LLP (presently known as RBT CPAs, LLP.) He retired in 2012.
Tom was a firm believer in volunteerism. He was Director of the NYS Society of CPAs, Chairman of Leadership Orange and the Mount Saint Mary College Board of Trustees Finance Committee, board member of the Newburgh Family Health Center, St. Cabrini Home, and Riverside Bank, and he held various positions on the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.
Tom loved golf and the New York Yankees. He was a 40-year member of The Powelton Club.
Faith and family were most important to Tom. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He made his Cursillo weekend in the 1980s. He was the most devoted father and grandfather ("papa.")
Tom is survived by his wife, Rosanne; daughter, Deanna Fino; and her husband, Mike; son, Gregory; and wife, Rachel; grandchildren, bonus grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Tom's memory go to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan, Mount Saint Mary College, or Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 10 from 4PM to 7PM at Brooks Funeral Home 481 Gidney Ave, Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on July 11 at Sacred Heart Church, 301 Ann St., Newburgh at 10AM. Entombment will follow at Cedar Hill Mausoleum.
