Thomas Leo
Malnic
September 22, 1947 – September 15, 2023
Thomas Leo Malnic, 75, passed away on September 15, 2023, at his home.
He was born on September 22, 1947 in Corning, New York, the son of Michael and Suzanne
(Bonick) Malnic.
Tom graduated from Corning High School and attended Dutchess County Community College .
Shortly afterwards, he served with the Army during the Vietnam war. He was a proud Green
Beret Special Forces combat veteran, who fought bravely alongside those who were on the
front lines during the conflict. His main objective of every mission he was a part of during those
times was to protect each and every fellow soldier to the best of his ability. He truly believed that
in combat, first and foremost, you fought for the soldier next to you. He was honorably
discharged in 1970, after serving as a member of the Military Police.
After the war he moved to the Hudson Valley, where he worked as a policeman and eventually
retired as a Lieutenant in the New York State Department of Corrections. He married the love of
his life, Nancy (Resnikoff) in 1972, and they have resided in Newburgh, NY for the majority of
their nearly 51 years of marriage.
He was the type of man who marched to the beat of his own drum and always led by example
right up to the time of his passing, demonstrating tremendous strength, courage, dignity, and
grace. He didn't tell you how to do something, he showed you by modeling it himself. Tom never
took the easy way out and never shied away from hard work. He would give of himself to help
anyone, especially his family. He truly lived his favorite saying " Enjoy what you can, while you
have it. Tomorrow is never promised."
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Theresa Malnic, as well as a
brother, John Malnic. Surviving in addition to his wife, Nancy, are his sons, Michael Malnic and
his wife Lisa, of Walden, NY;Mark Malnic and his wife Meghan, of Newburgh, NY; three
grandchildren, Andrew, Logan, and Mason;sister, Shirley Scates of New Hampshire;
The family would also like to give a special thanks to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties
for all of their support.
In lieu of flowers those who wish to remember Tom may make contributions in his memory to
the American Cancer Society or Orange County Veterans Service Association.
A private graveside service for the family will be held under the care of Brooks Funeral Home.
