Ueral D. Watson
January 23, 1932 ~ January 2, 2023
Ueral "Ibby" D. Watson, 91, of the Town of Newburgh, transitioned to the next life on January 2nd, 2024. He was born January 23,1932 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Clarence Watson and Julia (Lyons) Watson. Ibby was one of fourteen children. He graduated from Lawrence High School in Long Island and received a two year degree from Queens Community College.
As a dedicated man, he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was retired from the New York State Thruway Authority for the last thirty-five years.
Ibby enjoyed playing chess, flight simulator, golfing and the open road, but his pride and joy were his grandchildren Danielle and Keath. He lived a long and active life. Ibby enjoyed being the voice of reason, often lending his time to community activism with Citizen Action and the Alliance for Quality Education. Although he disliked the bus rides, he loved to yell! Ibby was also known for his giving spirit towards family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by all thirteen brothers and sisters, his wife Maryann Watson, daughters Laura Watson and Dianne Watson.
He is survived by his daughter, Pria Riley and son in law Aaron Riley of New Windsor, two grandchildren, Danielle Vereen and Keath Riley of New Windsor, and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews from the West Coast to the East Coast.
A memorial visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 10 from 3 - 5 PM. Military Honors will be presented, time to be determined. Interment of cremains will take place at Orange County Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations sent to the Alzheimer's Association, Hudson Valley Chapter (845) 471-2655.
