Virgilio G. Gimino
May 3, 1947 ~ February 20, 2023
Virgilio (Virgil) Gimino passed away suddenly on Monday, February 20th, at his home in New Windsor, NY with his wife by his side.Virgil was born in New York City on May 3rd , 1947 to Michael and Frances Gimino. He graduated from Fordham University with a degree in pharmacy. After many years of practicing pharmacy, he worked in the research and development department at Balchem Corp. in SlateHill, NY from where he retired. After retirement, Virgil went on to work part-time at Nature's Pantry in New Windsor, where he enjoyed interacting with the staff and customers from the local community. Virgil found his true passion in volunteerism. He has been a member of the New WindsorAmbulance Corps for 16 years where he recently became a member of the Board of Directors. Drawing upon his love of gardening, he joined the Bannerman's Island garden crew and with his love of history, he joined the Newburgh Historical Society. He also enjoyed volunteering at theCornwall public library as well as the Habitat for Humanity's Restore. Virgil really loved these volunteer activities and the opportunity they gave him to step out of his comfort zone. Virgil was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Frances (Magistro) Gimino. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice (Galvin) and his sons Christopher and Andrew and daughter Abigail, sister Amelia Vitale as well as his four grandchildren, Jillian, Christopher, Matteo, and Rosie, and many nieces and nephews.
If there was ever a party with music, Virgil and Janice would be first on the dance floor and the last to leave. He loved music, especially Motown and the classics. Virgil had a lifelong love of the NY Giants (who some years were easier to love than others), the NY Yankees, and all things Fordham.
A visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh, NY on Saturday, February 25th from 1-4pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either the New Windsor Ambulance Corp, P.O. Box 4334, New Windsor, NY 12553 or to the Newburgh Historical Society, 189 Montgomery Street, Newburgh, NY 12550.
A very special thank you to the members of the New Windsor Ambulance Corp (who were likeVirgil's second family), and the New Windsor Police Department.
