William R. O'Boy

November 26, 1944 ~ October 21, 2024

William "Bill" Robert O'Boy, Bigs to his family, was 79 years old and a resident of the Town of Newburgh, New York.  Bill passed away on October 21, 2024 at home with his loving family by his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was born on November 26, 1944 in the City of Newburgh to Robert O'Boy and Mildred Hasbrouck O'Boy.  He was the baby brother to Ann Jackson, Mary Faitak and Janice Stegal.  Bill graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and attended Orange County Community College.  He married the love of his life Maria C. Luca O'Boy in Newburgh, New York and had three children, Philip, Meghan and Shawn.

Bill enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam Era.  Bill was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections for 30 years, spending the majority of his career at Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill, New York.

Bill was known for his quick wit and savvy sense.  A true family man and provider.  Nothing was more important to Bill than his family and especially his granddaughters who he loved dearly.  Bill enjoyed yardwork, gardening and watching sports.

Bill is survived by his wife, Maria C. Luca; his children, Philip J. O'Boy (Lori), Meghan Rommel (Matthew), Shawn W. O'Boy (Lauren); his sister-in-law, Silvana Luca O'Keefe and her husband Kevin; his sister-in-law, Catherine Luca; his grandchildren, Jade R. O'Boy, Grace M. Rommel, Hope A. Rommel, Ava M. O'Boy; and several nephews and nieces.

Bill was predeceased by his parents and sisters and his brother-in-law, Dominick Luca.

Visitation will be held on Friday October 25, 2024 from 4:00pm to 7:00 pm.  Funeral Mass will take place on October 26, 2024 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh, NY. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties.  Bill's family would like to thank the angels of Hospice who provided guidance and support during a difficult time.
