Obituary

Mr. William James Reilly Jr. of the Town of Newburgh and a long time resident of the area entered into rest Saturday, September 6, 2014 at St. Luke's/Cornwall Hospital-Newburgh Campus. He was surrounded by his family. Bill was 80 years of age. He was born in West Point, New York on June 15, 1934, the son of the late William James Reilly and Anna Affeltranger Reilly. He graduated from Highland Falls High School in 1952. Bill was also a graduate of a trade school in Manhattan where he studied auto mechanics. He was introduced to the love of his life Frances Collins on a boat ride on the Hudson. They were married at St. Mary's Church in Marlboro on April 29, 1961 and were blessed to share 53 wonderful years together. He served his country on active duty during the Korean War and also served in the Aleutian Islands. Upon returning from his military service Bill was employed by the United States Military Academy in the motor pool. He was employed there for 40 years. Bill also continued his military service as an Army Reservist for 20 years, serving as motor sergeant and maintenance sergeant. He retired in 1994 earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. During his service, he received numerous commendations including an Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. He also served his community as a volunteer for the Middle Hope Fire Company. Bill joined the fire company in 1967, and was a member for 47 years. He served as a Past President and was still serving as a Commissioner of the fire department. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Frances, 2 daughters, Lori Ann Mead and her husband John of Montgomery and Eileen Reilly of Newburgh. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Timothy, Michael and Patrick Toomey of Newburgh and Katherine Mead of Montgomery. He was so very proud of his entire family and loved them very much. He is also survived by his sister Anne Moro of Montrose and a sister in law Ellen Wylam of Virginia. He was predeceased by a sister in law Marie Rhodes. Bill is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were very special to him. We want to convey how wonderful a person Bill was. He was kind hearted, generous, loving, and a true role model for all of us. We miss him and love him more than words can say. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday. September 10, 2014 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, N.Y., with a firematic service at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at St. Mary's Church, Route 9W, Marlboro, N.Y. at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lattintown Rd., Marlboro, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Middle Hope Fire Department, 11 Lattintown Road, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550, St. Mary's Church in Marlboro.
