Willie Wilson Carr passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, in Newburgh, New York, at the age of 86.
Born on January 9, 1939, in Nathalie, Virginia, Willie was the son of Jonathan Carr and Beatrice Miller. He was baptized at Sunflower Baptist Church and later served his country with honor as a member of the United States Army. Following his military servie, he built a fulfilling career as a mechanic and truck driver, dedicating many years to his work.
Willie is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Judith Carr; daughters Bernice Herring (Robert), Aletha Gay, and Jonisha Carr; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind cherished neighbors who became like family—the Williams and Hoffman families—and his loyal dogs Jake, Luna, and Luke. He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter Wanda Carr; his brother Glen Carr; his sister Edna Hancock; and his lifelong friend John Tucker.
Willie found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved summer vacations to destinations like Lake George, New York; Ocean City, Maryland; and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Cookouts with family and friends were among his favorite pastimes. Known for his meticulous care of his car, Willie approached life with pride and dedication. He also played a special role in the lives of Jayda and Jaxon, leaving behind a legacy of love and guidance that will be fondly remembered.
A man of faith, Willie was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he attended Sunday school and Bible study and served as a trustee. In later years, he found inspiration watching Joel Osteen, Jimmy Swaggart, and Charles Stanley on Sunday mornings. A devoted fan of WWE wrestling (KJ) as well as the New York Giants and Yankees, Willie embraced life with enthusiasm and devotion.
Willie's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. May his life of love and faith bring comfort to all who mourn his passing .
Visitation will be held from 10 am - 12 pm on Monday, January 20 at First Baptist Church, 481 South St., Newburgh, with a service at 12 pm.
