Bjorn A. Haugland, of the Town of Newburgh, a carpenter and a Captain for the Newburgh-Beacon Ferry, entered into rest on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Wingate at Dutchess, Fishkill, NY. He was 48. The son of Olaf and Erna Johansen Haugland, of Newburgh, he was born on June 30, 1964 in Huntington, Long Island. On June 8, 1985, Bjorn married Nina Okland in Bergen, Norway. Bjorn was Past President and a member of the Town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Past President of the Hudson Valley Lodge # 432 of the Sons of Norway and a member of the Montgomery Volunteer Ambulance Corps. In addition to his wife, Nina and parents, Olaf and Erna, he is survived by his father and mother-in-law, Nils and Nora Okland; two sons: Erik Haugland and his fiancé, Stacy Zwart, of the Town of Newburgh and Scott Haugland also of the Town of Newburgh; a grandson, Christian Andre' Haugland; his paternal grandmother, Astrid Haugland of Norway; his brother, Glenn Erik and his wife, Heidi Haugland of Norway; a sister, Anne Haugland of Newburgh, nephew and niece, Teo & Karen Haugland of Newburgh and many other nieces and nephews in Norway and his best friends, William Gerard and Christopher Costa and Ed and Dory Zwart. Bjorn was predeceased by his son, Andre' Haugland. A Memorial Celebration of Bjorn's life will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Winona Lake Firehouse, 160 S Plank Rd Newburgh, NY 12550. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the Haugland family.
