Obituary

George F. Weygant, of Cornwall, entered into rest on Monday, July 1, 2013 in Wingate at Ulster. He was 95. Son of the late Charles F. and Belle Lewis Weygant, Jr., he was born April 2, 1918 in New Windsor. On August 31, 1943 he married Norma Cathcart Weygant. George graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1937 and was a graduate of Spencer Business School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp two days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and served as an aviation mechanic and later as Chief Clerk of the Engineering School in Biggs Field, TX. After 4 years of service, he was discharged on Veteran's Day in 1945. He then was employed at West Point and Stewart Air Force Base, retiring after 26 years when they closed the Base. He was a member of Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, Senior Citizens of New Windsor, the American Legion, and UCT. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Norma, at home; his children, Gary Weygant of Manchester, NJ, Kristie Weygant of Mineral, VA and Cathy Lee Earisman of Essex, VT; his sister, Evelyn Groves of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Caitlin Stephens of Bumpass, VA, Jesse and Misty Earisman of Essex, VT; great-grandchildren, Gwen and Trevor; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, George R. Groves. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Friday, July 5 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 6 in Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, Newburgh, with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in George's memory may be made to Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, 54 Old Little Britain Rd., Newburgh, NY 12550.
