William H. Schmidt

William H. Schmidt, 82, entered into rest on January 15, 2021. The son of the late Ernst Schmidt and Mina Schmidt (Houghtaling), he was born in Newburgh. He married his loving wife of 61 years, Geraldine Schmidt, in Billerica, MA. Geraldine survives at home.
William was a graduate of NFA, worked as an Electrician with IBEW Local 363 for many years, and retired from IBM. He proudly served our country in the US Army from Nov. 1955 thru Dec.1959, and was a member of American Veterans.
In addition to his wife Geraldine, her is survived by his children: Donna Kidd and Jill and husband Billy Thorpe; grandchildren: Austin Kidd, Tyler & Lexi Thorpe; his brother Richard Schmidt; several nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends Walt and Margie Stewart. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by stepfather Carl Houghtaling, brother Ernst Schmidt, in-laws Frank & Sally Cabral, brother-in-law Frank Cabral and sister-in-law Jeanette Cabral.
The family will hold a private viewing. All are invited to a graveside service with military honors on Monday January 25, 2021 at 12 pm at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, NY.
